Sonny is President and Creative Director of Hamazaki Wong Marketing Group. In this capacity, Sonny has led major marketing campaigns for clients including Acura Lower Mainland Dealers, Air Canada, Alcan, Birks, Coast Capital Savings, EasyPark, Pacific National Exhibition, Pepsi-Cola, Sunrise Soya Foods, Tropicana Products, VanCity Savings, and many other blue-chip companies.

Sonny is also a respected event producer. He co-founded and currently serves as Producer of the Leo Awards, BC’s awards program for the film and television industry. In 2000, he produced eWorld Exhibition & Conference, also serving as its Director of Conference Program. And, in 1999, to welcome the Millennium, he was Executive Producer of First Night Vancouver, Vancouver’s only major New Year’s Eve celebration. From 1992 – 1999, Sonny was also General Manager of the annual Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival leading the event to become the largest and most celebrated dragon boat event in North America. And in 1997, Canada’s Year of Asia Pacific, he was General Manager of the 4th World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention, an international conference which took place at APEC in Vancouver.

His community activities find him as a member the board of directors of Vancouver’s Goh Ballet Society, Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Foundation of BC, Pacific Cinémathèque and the World Wildlife Fund (Pacific Council). He is also an editorial board member of the weekly Business in Vancouver newspaper where he, for four years, wrote its marketing column. Previously, he served on the boards of BC Sports Hall of Fame, Business Laureates of BC Hall of Fame Canadian Craft Museum, Canadian International Dragon Boat Festival Society, VanDusen Botanical Gardens and Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of Langara College’s Sales & Marketing Program and was an instructor of marketing in the Faculty of Commerce at the University of BC.

Sonny has been recognized as a nominee to Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year Awards and, in 1999, was named one of Business in Vancouver’s 40 Under 40, an achievement award given to top business leaders under the age of 40.
